So, you want to start dancing or learn a new dance style, but maybe you feel like you’re a little late to the party?
No you are not and yes you can begin dancing at any age you want as long as you have the right tools to start.
So here is what You Need to Know to Get Started:
– You don’t have to be an expert to start.
– You don’t have to be fit or flexible to start.
– You don’t have to be young to start ( my chair dance journey started at 32)
– You don’t have to be in your best shape to start.
– You can try different dance styles to decide which one makes your soul dance.
– Set a goal before joining the class and make a schedule for yourself.
– Start small and celebrate every tiny win!
– Don’t compare yourself to others. It’s always you vs you.
– Remember that there will be mistakes made and that’s okay! This is actually how we learn.
– Make sure to attend a beginner friendly class.
– Pay attention to the slightest detail in class.
– Be open to the instructor’s notes and advice.
– Attend the classes regularly.
– Keep practicing at home.
– Choose the right instructor.
– Believe in yourself and stop negative thoughts like “I will never be able to dance like that” or “I can’t do this”.
– When you are in class, make sure to disconnect from your daily problems and enjoy the moment.
If you still don’t feel comfortable attending a group class, you can ask for private classes.
All you have to do is START and start before you are ready.
